Interview: Missoni for Target

September 1, 2014

“We don’t need a logo to sign our clothes. You would recognise Missoni from a far, from its pattern and its textures.” – Angela Missoni

Target Australia’s latest designer collaboration with Italian house Missoni is certainly something special.  The range boasts over 220 pieces and unlike previous collaborations, it extends from womenswear to menswear, children’s and home. For your own piece of Missoni, boasting the iconic zigzag branding and colourful prints, make sure you pencil October 8th in your diary. Come October, Angela Missoni will also be in Australia to officially unveil the new collection!

Missoni for Target: The Interview

Last week, I ventured to Sydney for an exclusive sneak peek of the Missoni & Target collaboration. And boy, did it impress! To delve further into the insight behind the collaboration, I spent some time talking to Gillian Ridley-Whittle- Target’s General Manager for Womenswear and Missoni for Target.

What sets this collaboration apart from previous Target designer collaborations?
It’s such an extensive collection; as well as the clothing we really wanted to be able to dress the whole house. The other reason why this collaboration is so special is because Missoni is such a strong heritage Italian brand and so too is Target. On a final note, Missoni is an iconic brand, so bringing that to Australia at this time is quite phenomenal.

Tell us about the inclusion of homewares, menswear, children’s to the collection?
A lot of our designer collaborations have been focused on womenswear in the past, but because we’re a family brand, we really wanted to make sure our collaboration covered all areas, and Missoni was the perfect brand to execute this.

Key trends and pieces…
I’m particularly excited about the swimwear. I love the Ayers rock-inspired orange colours which also lends itself to some of the beautiful dresses and tops.  Also, because their style is so original, Missoni kind of sets trends itself. It’s the colour that really drives the look.

If the Missoni for Target collection was a person how would you describe their personality?
I would have to say they’re multi-faceted. The beauty about this collection is you can look at things and discover something different each time. If it was a person, he or she has got an individuality, a strong personality, a real sense of style… I think they would be an interesting person to get to know.

The iconic Missoni collection goes live in-store and online 08.10.2014
